Maxwel Okuto is the director of Amani Peoples Theatre Kenya, an organization that uses interactive multi-arts techniques to peacebuilding and conflict transformation.

​He has over 10 years of experience both locally and globally as a practitioner of Theatre of the Oppressed arts-based conflict transformation, trauma healing, and creative storytelling. He is a co-author of the books Forum Theatre in East Africa the Domain of the Possible (2015) (Africa Conflict & Peacebuilding Review Vol. 5) Indiana University Press and Reflecting on the Challenges of Applied Theatre in Kenya (2017) (Okuto, M. and Smith, B.), both published in Research in Drama Education: The Journal of Applied Theatre and Performance.
